Aimed At

Novice Demolition Plant Operators with little or no experience operating a demolition adapted excavator. Candidates may have had previous experience operating a standard excavator in a Construction environment. The course is aimed at candidates who are currently employed by a demolition company and will be given the opportunity to undertake further training on site under supervision by a competent demolition plant operator.


Train novice demolition plant operators in the foundation skills when operating a demolition adapted excavator machine. The course has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of demolition plant operation. The demolition plant simulator software has been designed to offer a true to life experience building upon foundation operation skills in a safe and controlled environment.

PLEASE NOTE - This foundation course is aimed at novice candidates only and therefore it is strongly recommended that on successful completion of the course, novices undertake further training on site under the supervision of a competent demolition plant operator.  Candidates will be issued with a certificate of foundation training on completion of the 2 day course.

Subjects Covered

A full day classroom training session focusing on foundation knowledge and understanding when using a conventional demolition plant adapted excavator.  This includes the following subjects:

  • Health & Safety Legislation
  • Pre-Start checks
  • Maintenance
  • Machine Awareness
  • Structural Awareness
  • Exclusion Zones
  • Safe use Of a Quick Hitch
  • Attachments
  • Hazards Awareness
  • Ground Conditions
  • Shut Down Procedures

will be made up of one-to-one training on the Demolition Plant Simulator. (Note day 2 of the course will be delivered in groups of three)

  • Machine Walkaround
  • Machine Familiarisation
  • Machine Movements & Behaviour whilst operating
  • Precision Movement
  • Selecting & changing an attachment
  • Tracking up & down slopes & ramps
  • Materials processing
  • Lorry or Hauler Positioning
  • Excavating foundations
  • Demolition Plant up to 15m (sorting & loading into receptacles, sheering of metals, pulverising of concrete beams, hydraulic breaking of concrete slab, manoeuvring around rough terrain and slopes, changeover of attachments)
  • High Reach Structural Awareness taster session
